Wash your hair
A clarifying shampoo is a great option for removing any residue or buildup from your hair, including the burnt smell.
First, wet your hair thoroughly with warm water. Make sure all of your hair is wet, from the roots to the tips.
Apply a generous amount of clarifying shampoo to your hair.
Massage the shampoo into your scalp and hair. Use your fingertips to work the shampoo into a lather and make sure you cover all areas of your hair.
Let the shampoo sit in your hair for a few minutes. This will give it time to break down any residue or buildup that’s causing the burnt hair smell.
Rinse your hair thoroughly with warm water. Make sure you rinse out all of the shampoo and there’s no residue left in your hair.
If the burnt hair smell is still present, you may need to repeat the process to ensure that all of the odor is eliminated.
Once you’ve washed your hair, apply a conditioner to your hair to keep it soft and hydrated. You can use any conditioner that works best for your hair type.
Rinse your hair thoroughly with cool water. This will help seal the hair cuticle and lock in moisture.
Finally, dry your hair as you normally would. You can use a blow dryer or let your hair air dry.
Use vinegar
Mix equal parts of white vinegar and water in a bowl. For example, if you use one cup of water, add one cup of white vinegar.
Apply the vinegar and water mixture to your hair. Make sure you cover all areas of your hair, from the roots to the tips.
Let the mixture sit on your hair for 10 to 15 minutes. This will give it time to break down any odors and eliminate the burnt hair smell.
Thoroughly rinse the mixture out of your hair with water, so there’s no vinegar left in your hair.
After using vinegar on your hair, it’s essential to condition your hair. This will prevent it from becoming dry or damaged.
Rinse your hair with cool water.
Note: If you have sensitive skin, dilute the vinegar with more water to avoid any irritation.
Use lemon juice
Squeeze the juice of one lemon into a bowl. Make sure you remove any seeds.
Mix equal parts of lemon juice with water.
Apply the mixture following the instructions in previous methods.
Let the mixture sit on your hair for 10 to 15 minutes, then rinse the mixture out of your hair with water.
Next, condition your hair, and then rinse your hair with cool water.
Just like white vinegar, lemon juice can cause irritation if you have sensitive skin. Therefore, always dilute the lemon juice with more water before using it.
Use essential oils
There are several essential oils that are great for masking odors, including lavender, peppermint, lemon, and tea tree oil. Pick an essential oil that you enjoy the scent of and that works well with your hair type.
Mix a few drops of the essential oil with water. You can use a spray bottle to mix the essential oil and water. For example, you can add 10 to 15 drops of essential oil to 8 ounces of water.
Shake the spray bottle to mix the essential oil and water together.
Spray the essential oil and water mixture onto your hair. Make sure you cover all areas of your hair.
Comb your hair to distribute the essential oil evenly. This will ensure that the scent is spread throughout your hair.
You can also mix a few drops of essential oil with your regular conditioner to give your hair a fresh scent.
Use a hair mask
If the burnt hair smell is still present after trying the previous methods, using a hair mask can be an effective solution.
You’ll need one egg, one tablespoon of honey, and one tablespoon of olive oil for this method.
Crack the egg into a bowl and whisk it until it’s well-beaten.
Add the honey and olive oil to the bowl and mix all three ingredients together.
Apply the mixture to your hair, starting at the roots and working your way down to the tips. Make sure you cover all areas of your hair with the mixture.
Put a shower cap or towel over your hair and leave the hair mask on for 30 minutes. This will give it time to penetrate your hair and eliminate the burnt hair smell.
Rinse the hair mask out of your hair with water. Make sure you rinse your hair thoroughly to remove all of the mixture.
Shampoo and condition your hair as usual.
If you have oily hair, you can skip the olive oil in the hair mask recipe. If you have dry hair, you can add more olive oil or coconut oil to the mixture.
